You may be able to paint like Picasso when it comes to applying fluoride varnish, but a growing number of patients are opting out of fluoride treatments.
Whether your patients want fluoride in their dental products or not, Oxyfresh has you covered. We know that not all patients are the same, so we offer both options!
While fluoride is a great way to fight cavities, what can be recommended as cavity-fighting protection for “fluoride-free” families?
‘X’ Marks the Spot … Xylitol
All Oxyfresh toothpastes and mouthwashes (with the exception of our Unflavored Mouthwash) are formulated with xylitol, a natural sweetener that pulls double-duty by fighting plaque.
Here’s some layperson info on xylitol to share with your patients:
What it is: a natural sugar found in many fruits, veggies and plant fibers. It tastes sweet, it’s 100% natural, and it’s safe for the whole family.
Why it’s not like “regular” sugar that promotes cavities: Decay occurs when bacteria in the mouth consume the sugars people eat. The bacteria multiply and form acids that eat away at tooth enamel. This acid can cause gum inflammation, plaque and cavities.
Although xylitol is a sweetener, it doesn’t break down like ordinary sugar. It helps keep a neutral pH in the mouth (prevents the acid attack!) and stops bacteria from sticking to the teeth, which decreases the amount of plaque.
Research has even shown that xylitol can help repair current damage to the enamel by increasing salivary flow.
Share these xylitol facts with your patients, and they’ll appreciate even more your choice to offer Oxyfresh products!
